| Il paese ? adagiato su un ampio pianoro ad una cinquantina di metri sul livello del lago, dirimpetto alla penisola di Bellagio, proprio dove il Lario raggiunge la sua massima ampiezza.
Cadenabbia ? una delle frazioni pi? importanti che compongono il comune, sorge sulle pendici del monte Crocione, in posizione silenziosa, tranquilla, fuori dal traffico. Il suo nome deriva dalla contrazione e dallo storpiamento di: -Ca' dei Nauli-, ossia -Casa dei Barcaioli-. Anticamente, infatti, in questa localit? sorgeva una locanda dove erano soliti sostare i barcaioli (Nauli) che con i loro comballi (battelli mercantili a fondo piatto) trasportavano merci e derrate provenienti da Lecco e da Como ai paesi rivieraschi.
Tra la fine del 1400 e durante tutto il 1500, Griante fu al centro di scorribande, ruberie, incendi e devastazioni da parte dei soldati di ventura, dei Grigioni, dei Lanzichenecchi e dei Luterani che combatterono nelle lunghe e sanguinose guerre di religione e di potere tra Spagnoli e Francesi in territorio Lombardo.
Il comune di Griante ?, da molto tempo, considerato un ottimo centro turistico, basti pensare che il primo albergo fu costruito nel 1800 ad opera di G. Pianella ed ? tuttora funzionante. Nel corso degli anni in questa localit? vi soggiornarono insigni turisti, fra i quali ricordiamo Stendhal, Giuseppe Verdi, il poeta americano Longfellow, la Regina Vittoria d'Inghilterra, il Kaiser Guglielmo II, l?Arciduca Nicola II di Russia e, in tempi pi? recenti il cancelliere Konrad Adenauer, uno degli fautori dell'Unione Europea.
Turista particolare fu Carlo Guglielmo Franzani, morto a Carlazzo nel 1813, che ha lasciato sulla grande parete del cortile di casa Franzani un suo ritratto.
